We celebrate the art of \u00c1ngela Jim\u00e9nez P\u00e9rez (Bogot\u00e1, 1960), whose works \u2014 featuring organic strokes in hues unique to blue and indigo \u2014 narrate a graphic poem that flows through 79bogot\u00e1. Using canes, wooden beams, stone, and soil for rammed earth construction \u2014 tapia pisada \u2014 in Barichara (Santander), \u00c1ngela revives the artisanal production of a\u00f1il in this region, a natural pigment whose production declined and nearly disappeared with the rise of synthetic dyes. Her work converses with every corner of 79bogot\u00e1.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The workshop\u2019s artisans operate on a small scale, from collecting or receiving glass \u2014 often sourced from people experiencing homelessness who depend on informal recycling as work \u2014 to breaking down the material and melting it to create new glass. With hand-embroidered copper accents, each rug is woven from fique palm fibers and requires between 1000 and 1500 threads. Both their design and vertical loom weaving embody a craft tradition upheld by a family from the town of Pesca (department of Boyac\u00e1), who have worked with the fique palm for over 30 years. The lamps are woven in iraca palm by artisans in the south of the Nari\u00f1o department, near the border with Ecuador. This palm thrives in Colombia's Pacific region and requires a delicate, entirely manual fiber extraction process. The leather desk pads are the product of a family-run workshop that began in Colombia\u2019s rural regions, first in the department of Arauca and later in Yopal, and established with approximately five artisans in Bogot\u00e1. The workshop has been operating for 25 years in Bogot\u00e1 and holds the PaisSana certification, awarded to initiatives that highlight rural trades impacted by Colombia\u2019s armed conflict.\u00a0<\/p>

This artisanal leather craft seeks to grow as a circular economy: the leather is sustainably and organically tanned, minimizing pollution of water sources.
